On Psychotherapy...

Joshua Pickett is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist* with a diverse background in mental health. He has spent time as a lead behavior interventionist, school counselor, intake clinician, and relationship therapist working with a diverse range of clients. He utilizes a Humanistic approach to therapy that is based in each client’s natural strengths and individual needs.

Joshua understands psychotherapy and human nature from a Holistic lens bringing equal attention to the mind, body, and soul. He utilizes techniques based in mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), depth psychology, and a variety of mind-body approaches. He has studied and explored both Western and Eastern approaches to psychotherapy and human consciousness. He has spent time with Monks in Thailand studying Buddhism and learning various approaches to spirituality, trauma, substance abuse, and human nature. He has also been trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory which empowers individual to understand and heal the various “parts” of themselves in a non-pathological and compassionate approach.
Joshua understands the most important ingredients in therapy to be the therapeutic relationship and positive expectancy. He brings a sense of ease, hope, empathy, and collaboration to the therapeutic space. He believes that each client has their own innate capacity to heal and works collaboratively to find the approach that is best suited to each clients' needs.

Joshua holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University in Fresno, and a Master’s degree in Counseling: Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University in Long Beach.

On human capacity for change and healing...

“Our mind, body, and soul each have their own innate knowledge and capacity to heal. I believe each of these systems are always on the path towards growth, healing, and integration. Throughout our lives, we can experience a lot of painful learning. This can include major and minor traumas, difficulty in relationships, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, as well as unavoidable environmental stressors. Each of these can cause us to become “stuck” along the healing process. This is when various symptoms, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, can begin to express themselves. As your therapist, I will help you on your journey to explore and discover your most true Self and begin to bring gentleness and change to the stuck places in your life. At times, this can be a painful and difficult process, but through mindfulness, attentiveness, and courageous hard work, your natural resources can be discovered and utilized to bring lasting change, health, and overall well-being. It would be my honor to help you on that journey.”
